Tungsten, or wolfram, is a chemical element with symbol W and atomic number 74. The name tungsten comes from the former Swedish name for the tungstate mineral scheelite, from tung sten "heavy stone". Tungsten is a rare metal found naturally on Earth almost exclusively in chemical compounds. Tungsten has the highest tensile strength of any natural metal, and is extremely dense (1.7 times denser than lead). Tungsten has been used in NASA rockets, race cars are more. Manufactured by the experts, Midwest Tungsten Service, in the USA. Each cube is incredibly well packaged in foam and comes complete with a fact sheet about the metal(s) purchased.
So if you've made it this far you're either already intent on picking up one of these beauties, or you're wondering what the fuss is all about - it's just a cube of metal, it doesn't actually do anything - why bother? Well we heard it put best when we read a review ourselves, which simply said 'if you don't already know why you want one, then you don't want one'.
Until you feel one of these cubes in your hand it's easy to underestimate just how dense they are. A seriously cool desktop distraction for the engineer or scientist in your family.
