The Émile Cohl flip book is part of the Pioneers collection from Spanish flip book experts, Flipboku. A tribute to the pioneers of early filmmaking, this is one of ten "cinemagic" flip books, each triggering 6 different animations depending on the position of your thumb!
Each edition also features a two-minutes augmented reality micro-documentary with more information about each artist's life, their background and their most outstanding works, which can be viewed through your personal smartphone or tablet (instructions on the box).
Émile Cohl (1857 – 1938) was a French caricaturist of the largely forgotten Incoherent Movement, cartoonist, director and animator, known as the “Father of the Animated Cartoon". Cohl’s short film Fantasmagorie (1908) is considered the first fully animated cartoon film. It is made up of 700 drawings, each of which was double-exposed, giving a running time of almost two minutes. Despite the short running time, the piece was packed with material devised in a "stream of consciousness" style. The flip book comes with an Augmented Reality feature, that you can visualise when scanning the front cover with your smartphone or tablet: a 3 minutes mini-documentary about Cohl's life, his background and his most outstanding work.
