Top Panel Yosegi Puzzle Box

Handmade in Japan by Hiroyuki Oka. The Himitsu Bako (秘密箱) is a traditional Japanese puzzle box designed to hide small items through a series of sliding panels.

These puzzle boxes feature the Yosegi marquetry on the top panel only with a checkered pattern on 3 sides and a sliced walnut wood base. This 14 step puzzle box has been meticulously crafted from Walnut, Mizuki and Rengas woods and includes 3 panels and 2 slide keys to open. 

This lovely Ichimatsu Yosegi (Japanese checkered pattern) box measures 85mm and features an internal storage space of 105 x 51mm. Each puzzle includes a gift box and solution.

Over 30 years ago Hiroyuki Oka was an apprentice with the expert craftsmen in the Hakone mountains.

Hiroyuki has since been working independently since 2003 and produces his own beautiful himitsu bako pieces of puzzle art.
