Walnut Yosegi Puzzle Boxes

Handmade in Japan by Hiroyuki Oka. The Himitsu Bako (秘密箱) is a traditional Japanese puzzle box designed to hide small items through a series of sliding panels.

Yosegi Himitsubako (secret boxes) are measured using an old Japanese method of measurement called 'Sun'. One Sun is approximately 3cm, so 4 Sun would represent just under 12cm.

These measurements represent the width of the box.

Over 30 years ago Hiroyuki Oka was an apprentice with the expert craftsmen in the Hakone mountains.

Hiroyuki has since been working independently since 2003 and produces his own beautiful himitsu bako pieces of puzzle art.
