Aroundsquare's "Standard" begleri series is a homage to the ubiquitous “standard issue” Greek barrel shaped begleri.
This series is a contemporary adaptation of the original timeless design, with a slightly refined shape, precision machined and polished to perfection. They feature the same 1:1 aspect ratio favoured by most players, and a compact form factor that is small enough to slip easily past the string instead of binding, and sufficiently rounded for comfortable play. The right angles in the design provide excellent bead control without compromising on nimbleness. Sized at 16mm tall by 16mm wide, perhaps the most distinguishing feature of the design relative to others is the generous top bore, designed to accommodate 550 paracord—a first for Aroundsquare.
Available in natty (natural Titanium), copper, brass or stainless steel. Note that while the beads are sized to accommodate the Hardcore Gut System, the Modern Standard beads are sufficiently heavy on their own, and do not require the optional beads. Also bear in mind that the gut beads do not easily accommodate 550 paracord, but will serve the purpose of centring 275 paracord in the wider bore of the Modern Standards. Despite the compatibility, the Modern Standard sets were designed to stand alone, and the beads are sufficiently heavy on their own to play very well. The individual Modern Standard bead weights copper 16g, Brass 15g, Stainless 14g and Titanium 8g (plus end caps at 5g).
The titanium Modern Standards whip with a pair of titanium End Caps. The natty version ships with in the nightfall colour way end caps (one sunset, one shinobi), and the shinobi version ships with "oil slick" end caps (black with a slight multicolour sheen). The Modern Standard beads themselves are laser etched with the aroundsquare word mark, adding a touch of class and underscoring their authenticity. Please note that the patches, stickers and extras vary in colour and quantity depending on availability.
